Garden Fresh: Strawberry Shortcake
A moist vanilla sponge cake filled with layers of whipped cream frosting and garden fresh strawberries. A classic layer cake that can be used for any occasion!
When our summer garden started to produce the most beautiful strawberries after one year of planting only 6 single plants I knew strawberry shortcake was a must for this summer. My main goal was to come up with a cake stacked high enough to have layers with flavors of strawberries and whipped topping. The only side project I had while coming up with this recipe was to make sure I could harvest enough strawberries before my two labradors Bella & Piper would eat them. I absolutely love that my girls eat so healthily but sometimes they pick and eat the garden harvest so fast! Little healthy eaters! I have shared some pictures on this blog post for you two view of our garden dates on the homestead.
I wanted a recipe that was easy & from scratch because that always taste better. To me this garden fresh strawberry shortcake could be used for a nice dinner party dessert or a summer night bbq. I especially find this recipe perfect for Memorial Day and 4th of July. It would be perfect with little candle or sparklers on top to ring in any occasion.
