It’s almost the end of the year and around this time I always look into new kitchen organization ideas. Some things are not for me or take too much work, but I’ve been perfecting this method each year and it keeps getting better. If you’re looking for kitchen organization ideas, I’ve got you covered.
What is the best way to organize your kitchen?
Not all kitchen organization ideas will advise you to start all the way from the beginning, but this one is going to. The first thing you should do if you are truly going to organize your kitchen would be to empty all of the cabinets and drawers. You can start sorting the mess by throwing out anything that may be expired or unusable. You’d be surprised what people have in the back of their cabinets!
Another thing that you should do before starting any kitchen organization ideas is clean out the refrigerator! This will clear out any dishes that are in there so that they can be organized with the rest of them. This will also ensure that any old or expired items are gone and clear up space for more things. This also creates a much more sanitary refrigerator. Your refrigerator should actually be cleaned out weekly but can be done monthly if you don’t have time to do it every week.
Another useful kitchen organization idea is to maximize the vertical space in your cabinets! You can hang hooks for mugs, or stack things on top of each other. It’s helpful to keep things in clear containers so that you can see what is inside of them without pulling them all the way out! You can use clear containers for cereal, rice, sugar, flour, and so much more!
How do You Decide where to Put Things in Kitchen Cabinets?
For the next step in your kitchen organization idea, once the cabinets have been cleared out, you would then place the items back into the cabinets in a way that makes sense. For example, it may be useful to place the spices near the stove where you would be cooking, so that you have easy access to them while you are cooking. You may also want the pots and pans near the stove since that’s where they will be used.
We have floating kitchen shelves, so our dishes are mostly out on display. This makes our kitchen organization even more crucial since our mess will be on display if it’s not organized! Our kitchen organization idea was to group all similar items together. This goes for dishes, utensils, and food. All of the plates, all of the serving dishes, and all of the Tupperware should all be housed as groups, so that all of the plates are in one place, all of the bowls together, etc. Some people have a coffee station where mugs are, so they would not be near the drinking glasses, and you may also have wine glasses that are stored differently as well. You can execute this kitchen organization idea any way you please, as long as it makes sense for your home.
The regular cutlery like forks, knives, and spoons should all be together. One amazing kitchen organization idea is drawer separators. With these, you can make better use of all of your kitchen drawers. You can divide a drawer in two sections, one for knives and the other for serving spoons and spatulas. Small items like corn cob holders can be kept in a container inside of the drawer, to keep them from rolling all around. There’s no limit to what kitchen organization ideas you can put to use in your home!
New Year Organization with Glass Jars
Organizing the food in your pantry is quite possibly the hardest part. Everything comes packaged so differently, and not everything is resealable. Luckily, there is one kitchen organization idea that solves these issues – glass jar organization! As the new year approaches, it’s time for a kitchen organization refresh!
For my pantry organization, I used glass jars to put all of our bulk baking and cooking items in. I linked the jars below that I used. It works really well because on top of it being clean and efficient way to store you can see when you are running low on products. That is how I know to add brown sugar to my shopping list for the week.
We have a narrow hallway that connects to the kitchen and I like the way the jars make it look clean and organized when the slider barn doors are open. Also, in our kitchen area, under our butcher block that Trevor made, there is a shelf. On the shelf I have large glass containers that I have my oatmeal, flour, and sugar in. They are very easy access and again very easy to know when we are running low on products.
Do you have any kitchen organization ideas that you would like to show off? Tell us about it in the comments, friends!
