I get questions all the time about I how I care for my blonde hair and what products I use. Blonde hair is naturally the most porous hair color type and requires extra care to keep it healthy. Follow these ten best tips to care for your blonde hair.
Blonde hair is naturally more porous and more prone to environmental damage than other hair color types. Natural blonde hair is typically fine and the cuticle is not filled with a lot of pigment, leaving it open to absorbing more than darker hair color types.
This is especially true if you color your hair. The process of lifting color out to make it blonde is extremely damaging and blows open your hair cuticle so that it will easily absorb more of what you expose it to.
Here are our best blonde hair care tips to keep it bright, healthy, and moisturized.

Best Blonde Hair Care Tips
Keep it hydrated.
Be sure to use a good conditioner. Before applying conditioner, remove excess water from your hair so the conditioner will penetrate the hair and not just lay on top of it. You may also opt to use a leave-in conditioner for extra hydration.
Protect it from heat.
For most people, the sun isn’t the only source of damage. Frequent use of hot styling tools, like dryers and curling irons, can cause lots of damage. About 95% of the time I only let my hair air dry. I will do loose waves in the hair the next day with heat protection when I know my hair is fully dry. It’s best to keep heat styling to a minimum, but when you do pull out your hot tools, make sure to use a heat protectant beforehand. I do love these items for this. To take a total break from heat styling, learn to embrace your natural texture. A lightweight styling cream can help that texture come to life with effortless, air-drying – no hot tools required.
3. Keep it out of the sun.
The sun damage goes for all hair types but light-colored hair is especially at risk because natural blondes tend to have fewer, finer strands. To stay shielded from the sun, wear a scarf or wide-brimmed hat (ideally one rated with an ultraviolet protection factor, or UPF) when you’re outside. Most of the time in the summertime you will find me with a hat on. To protect my hair and face from the sun running around the farm.

4. Make your color last, shampoo less if you can.
Shampooing your hair aids in drying it out, so shampooing less will help. Also, rinse in cool water to help the color last longer.
5. Read labels and avoid sulfates.
Sulfates in shampoo are what make the shampoo lather. The more lather the better, right? No! Sulfates are very drying to hair and should be avoided when possible. Look for sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium aureth sulfate in the ingredient list on your shampoo, buy a sulfate free shampoo. When your hair needs a good cleansing it’s okay to use a clarifying shampoo, but only use it one or two times a month.
6. Don’t skip conditioning and deep conditioning your hair.
Work from the end of your hair up when applying conditioner and make sure your hair is towel dried to remove excess water before conditioning.
7. Tone your blonde.
Even if you take protective measures, it’s likely that natural elements will tarnish the brightness of your blonde. If the color is straying from its true roots, visit your stylist regularly to tone your hair. Different from bleach treatments, toners don’t lift the color of your strands, but rather, add a tint to keep cool tones cool and counteract yellowing or brassiness.
Well water will give it an orange or brassy color and chlorine will give blonde hair a green tone. A malibu treatment will help deeply clarify and remove impurities.
