UPDATE: We have revamped our Dog Grooming Station, you can check it out here!
Are you a dog lover? Need to wash your dogs somewhere else other than your shower? Here is an easy guide & everything you need to how to make our DIY Dog Wash Station we have in the barn!
DIY Dog Shower
Dog grooming can be difficult and messy. Larger dogs especially. But with professional dog grooming being so expensive, having your own dog wash station can be an excellent way to save some money.
Dog grooming on our homestead is a big deal. We don’t just have bath time, we have spa days. So to save our bathroom we built a DIY dog grooming room in the barn. Linked below are all the materials we had to buy to build ours.
The platform and the steps that lead up to the galvanized steel dog shower were made from materials we had around the homestead. With as small as this platform is though you should be able to find most of what you need in an old pallet.
After cutting out the side of the steel tank for easy access and a drain hole we used the edge trim and black urethane spray to seal any gaps and cover any sharp edges. The large steel tub not only makes dog grooming much easier it is also a very attractive design that fits the farmhouse style.
Dog Grooming Shower Attachment
Now that you have the shower base put together it is time to set up the shower attachment and the other fittings you need. We attached this faucet to the water line in our dog grooming room. Then we chose this pet wand dog shower attachment that makes showers simple. Finally, we used this hitch ring plate to keep them in the tub.
Dog grooming is more than just a dog shower though. A spa day is ear cleaning, nail trimming, and hair brushing. The links in this post are affiliate links, and buying products directly from these links truly helps me so much. Thank you for your support of this growing blog!

Dog Grooming Station Ideas
Not everyone has a barn or a homestead and our dog grooming room may not be easy to replicate. So if you have come here for ideas it should not be hard to adapt what we have to fit your own needs.
After you built our dog shower platform and tub you may have to find outside space to put it. If you don’t have the tools or know-how to run a water line to your dog washing station a hose will connect to the wand we chose and work just as well.
Whether you were able to recreate our dog grooming room or you just took some ideas we would love to see what you have done with your own DIY dog washing station. So tag me in a picture and let me see what you have done.
Our Fur Babies
Our dogs are our babies and just because this post is all about them and we love them so much I want to take a moment and introduce you to our babies.
Bean is our old soul. She is the most devoted and kindest Yellow lab to ever walk this earth. She has persevered everything and is the greatest bird huntress, snuggle buddy, cohort and adventure companion around. Bella’s extensive lifelong training in posing for pictures has rendered her the most photogenic canine in history, and for that we simply love her.
Piper the peanut is our crazy redhead. She is a Fox Red Lab and she is full of energy. She is great at entertaining herself for hours on end and when it comes time to harvest our bountiful garden the bell peppers don’t stand a chance. They are her absolute favorite and she eats every single one she picks. Crazy by day, snuggly by night, Piper is a one-of-a-kind character.
Invaders don’t stand a chance against the watchful eye of Archer, our Great Pyrenees/Akbash mix. He is a working dog whose duties include protecting his flock, herding his posse and melting the hearts of all humans who dare to meet his gaze. He is the kindest, sweetest soul and is truly dedicated to his purpose. Rain or shine, Archer is there for his critters and is the greatest ranch hand a homestead could hope for.
I linked the nail clippers I love (trust me not all work the same) and ear cleaner because my labs tend to have ear infections because of all of their swimming I put a few drops in each ear after they swim. I also linked the brushes & dog soaps that I use too! These are some of my most asked items what we use for all the dogs I hope this is helpful for you!
Hugs, Christina
