It’s that time of year again and we have already busted out the Halloween decor! If you’re ready to do the same, we have got some ideas for you! We will show you how we mix fall and Halloween decor, and how we make our house spooky for Halloween!
How can I decorate my house for Halloween?
When it comes time to look at Halloween decor for the year, there are so many different options. You can go whimsical, seriously scary, or somewhere in between. Some people even set up entire haunted walk-throughs in their front yard! It’s not for everybody, but if you love Halloween decor as much as we do, then this is the time of year when you actually want spiderwebs on your house!
You can decorate very simply with some cheap tombstones lining your walkway, you can pick these up at any dollar store. You can also find that white, cotton webbing that works really well if you have stucco on the outside of your house. Similar to Christmas, most hardware and party stores will have inflatable decorations to put in your yard. These range from small to bigger than your house and they are super fun for the kids to see.
If you live in a neighborhood that gets a lot of trick-or-treaters, you may be especially inclined to deck your front step out with Halloween decor. Some folks have stuffed clothing with newspaper or hay and placed spooky scarecrows at the front door, and there are also really fun mechanical candy bowls that have a hand pop out when you reach in for candy. There are so many fun Halloween decor options to choose from, have you decided what you’ll be doing this year?
Can you mix fall and Halloween decor?
I’ve got one word for you: pumpkins. We are lucky enough to have our own pumpkin patch in our garden, and we have pumpkins a-plenty. They become ready to be harvested right at the perfect time to be used as decor and for yummy pumpkin recipes. Pumpkins are known to represent not only Halloween but Thanksgiving and Fall in general!
We blend fall decor with Halloween decor seamlessly with this diverse produce! When Fall rolls around, we usually start putting pumpkins around the house and on the front porch. The colors match the leaves on the trees as they change and they help to create the most beautiful Fall vibes. You can also make cute centerpieces if you have a decorative bowl and a handful of mini pumpkins!
When October rings in, we are ready to switch it up a bit. We carve or paint pumpkins to create jack-o-lanterns for Halloween, which is probably one of our favorite traditions. We also bring out more Halloween decor, to give the house a spooky look. After Halloween is over, it is so easy to remove any carved pumpkins and specific Halloween decor, and the remaining pumpkins leave you ready for Thanksgiving and still suited up for Fall!
Spider Halloween decor
This year, for our Halloween decor, we chose to hag giant spiders and webs on the side of our house. The girls absolutely love it and since Frankie’s birthday is on Halloween, it is such a fun time. If you wanted to recreate this Halloween decor at your house, we will show you how we put it up!
We got the spiders themselves from Amazon, and they arrived quickly with 2-day shipping. To get them up on the side of the house, we used zip ties and zip tie mounts, that have adhesive on the back and can stick anywhere. If you’re afraid of heights like me, you may need help getting up on the ladder, but once you’re up there these spiders are so easy to hang.
We stuck them all over the side of our white farmhouse which really looks cool. We also added some hanging skeletons to make it seem like the spiders have already had a snack. It kind of creeps me out, which is exactly what I was going for with my Halloween decor this year!
