Celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary on the homestead with Cover Crop Whiskey!
From Trevor – Growing up in rural placer county, I always had an affinity for all things agriculture. I was involved in 4H from an early age and carried the trend right through to college where I studied Ag Business at CSUC. After college, I began training to become an aerial applicator and leased some ground to farm rice. Making a living as a steward of the land felt entirely natural and reaffirmed that I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing.
From aerial application to tending to our farm on the homestead, agriculture is in our roots. That’s why Country Crock’s Cover Crops Project is so dear to our hearts. Country Crock asked their neighbor J Rieger & Co to create a limited one-time edition Cover Crop Whiskey to bring awareness to their Cover Crops Project. This Cover Crop whiskey exemplifies the importance of a harmonious balance in our agricultural system. Blended with a touch of whiskey distilled with the very same cover crop cereal rye that’s helping protect America’s farmlands.
What is a Cover Crop?
Rotating in cover crops helps protect and replenish nutrients in the soil.
How? They help prevent soil erosion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by returning carbon to the soil as a nutrient.
That’s why I love this initiative so much. Find out more about The Cover Crops Project visit covercropwhiskey.com
What is the Cover Crops Project?
Country Crock calls Kansas home – their spread is made with crops grown by farmers in the Kansas area.
The Cover Crops Project provides Kansas-area farmers with financial resources and training to plant cover crops.
Why whiskey?
One of the most common cover crops is cereal rye
Country Crock has asked their neighbor in Kansas City – J. Rieger & Co. – to make a one-of-a-kind rye whiskey, blended with a touch of whiskey distilled with cover crop cereal rye.
This limited, one-time edition Cover Crop Whiskey, produced and bottled by J. Rieger & Co., is small batch – only 500 bottles are available – and was made to bring awareness to cover crops!
Available for purchase only through MashandGrape.com
Let’s toast to building toward a more sustainable future together friends!
Hugs,
Christina & Trevor
