It’s almost Christmas time and you know what that means – holiday decor! This time of year is so magical and we love reflecting that with the holiday decor that we use around the homestead. Take a look at all the ways we deck the halls, both inside and outside, over here at Thermaland Oaks!

We have so much space to decorate on our farm, and we want all of the animals to be able to join in on the Christmas fun as well. For this reason, we make it a point to decorate not only the barn but the chicken coop as well! We know our furry (and feathery) friends enjoy the lights, and it really brings the holiday spirit to life seeing all the parts of our homestead drenched in holiday decor.

We like to put up a Christmas tree in the barn as well as in the house since we spend so much time there. We also line the stalls with lights, garlands, and wreaths. All of these decorations are so easy and go long way when decorating so much space. On the outside of the barn, we put up a giant wreath, which ties it all together! Just doing our morning chores during this holiday season makes it feel like we are in a winter wonderland!

The chickens are never forgotten, and their coop gets the full treatment as well. For holiday decor on the chicken coop, we hang a wreath on the door and set up mini Christmas trees on the sides of the door. We also put lights up on the outside, of course! It’s not much but, tied in with the rest of the outdoor holiday decor, it’s perfect.

One thing we always love to decorate with each changing season is our front porch! Now, we don’t get a lot of visitors coming by the front of our home, so these decorations are mostly just for us, but we love to share our ideas with you as well, just in case you were looking for some holiday decor ideas. Around Christmas time, we usually put lights up all around our farmhouse, as is tradition. The girls absolutely love seeing the house lit up, and there’s something about Christmas lights that will mesmerize even the biggest grinch. On the front porch, we flank the door with two beautifully lit miniature Christmas trees and a festive wreath hanging front and center. The porch chairs get their festive and cozy throws or pillows and you can’t forget the front door mat! A garland bordering the front door is the final touch on our front porch holiday decor.

Once you walk through the front door, you will be greeted with all of the familiar sights and smells of Christmas. Greens, reds, and golds are placed carefully around our farmhouse, and the fresh pine and pinecones will fill the air with a crisp aroma that blends perfectly with the smell of a fresh apple pie being baked. There really is nothing like the magic of Christmas!

In our farmhouse kitchen, we love placing sprigs of fresh pine. Doing chores in the kitchen is much different during this season, and you just can’t help but feel the love. You can’t go wrong with poinsettias or holly berries, the splashes of red are truly so beautiful, and you can give your home the Christmas feel without feeling like you are drowning in red. We also have special holiday sheets and blankets that we make the beds with during Christmas time. It keeps us in the holiday spirit from sun up to sun down! In addition to the common rooms of the house, the bedrooms are decorated with holiday flowers and wreaths as well.

Last but not least, our family Christmas tree. We love having a fresh tree, even if that means it’s not the fullest or most perfect tree. It’s still one of the best family traditions to decorate the tree, and we love making these homemade ornaments with the girls! We set the tree up directly inside the front door in our entry way, where it has plenty of space to fill with presents. We also hang snowflakes from the ceiling to give it an extra magical effect when we are sitting around our tree.
