Today we are going to do a quick garden tour. We will start at our deer-proof fencing onto the first tear and rock wall before we end at the raised garden beds.
Deer Proof Fencing
We start our garden tour with the beautiful garden gates Trever made in the deer-proof fencing we built. You can see a video about it here and read more about it here. We planted vibrant white roses in the ground to trellis over the arch of the gate.
Next to the roses, we planted cucumbers. We have two different varieties. One is a pickling cucumber, the other is an English cucumber salad. We plan to get some more varieties and plant them along the opposite side of the gate. We also plan to build more trellises in front of the fencing for raspberries and blackberries.
Top Tier and Rock Wall
We continue the garden tour onto the top tier of the garden. On the rock wall fence line, we did not want to put up a big fence so to protect the edge we planted thorny roses to keep the girls away from the edge. They are Charlotte Day Monacos and should be a peach pink color.
We have a big open space here that we have not yet decided what to do with it yet. We were originally thinking that we would put a big circle bed in the middle with an L-shaped bed around the edges. We think we will build the beds out of the same rock as the rock wall. We are still not sure yet. You will have to check back with us for our next garden tour to see what we decide to do with this space.
We have another trellis that Trever made. We have more Eden climbers that eventually are going to grow over the top of it. Between the trellis and the Deer-proof fencing, we are not sure if we want to put a water feature or a sitting area. We do have more area elsewhere for a water feature and this would be an excellent place for the girls to sit and snack while we pick vegetables from the garden.
Along the edge of the rock wall, we plan on growing some creping time. We think it will look really pretty. We only have one box of it so we are keeping our eye out at the nursery. That is one of our next projects. We have a lot more to do on this top tear so we will have more to show you on the next garden tour.
Raised Garden Beds
We continue the garden tour walking down from the top tear down to the raised garden beds. You can see a video about how we built them here. Right now we have the six beds lined up next to the rock wall. The four on the outside have hog panel trellises over them while the center two beds have a hog panel arch between the two.
In the two corner beds, we have all tomato plants and basil. We have a wide variety of tomatoes. We have different colors of cherries to Romas to big beef. We love tomatoes, we love salsa so we are excited about that.
The Next bed has more tomatoes and a variety of bell peppers. Green, yellow, red, and orange, whatever your favorite we have you covered. We also have a small lunch box variety that is small and sweet.
In the middle two beds that have the cow panel connecting them, we plan to grow yardstick green beans. they should grow over the arch between the two raised beds making a beautiful and productive walkway. on the outer edge of the boxes, we have more peppers and some creeping thyme for the rock wall.
On the ground opposite the raised garden beds, we have different varieties of squashes, cantaloupes, Watermelons, and zucchinis. So all of our vining plants will be on the ground. We still have yet to plant the pumpkin but we want them among the vining plants too.
I hope you guys liked our little garden tour. It is kind of hard as we don’t have a lot growing yet. We did not want to rush it. We are excited though to share with you guys as we grow and progress. We knew we wanted raised beds and we got all our vegetables planted. As we add more we will share more. We are looking forward to sharing more garden tours with you all soon.
Bonus!
I know it’s not really part of the garden but if you go just below the garden beds you will find our orchard. We have a bunch of fruit trees and olives. The orchard is full of all sorts of things and getting ready to pick now, too.
You can find a full video of the garden tour here. We would love to hear from our readers so if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment below. As the growing season continues and we begin to pick fruits and vegetables we are going to share recipes.
Let us know what you would like to see next.
Hugs,
Christina & Trevor
