I’ve discovered that when God puts a dream in your heart, you should chase it. Our dream home is coming true right in front of our eyes and that has only encouraged us to dream bigger. We are excited to announce we are starting Phase 2 Construction!
It all started with a dream for Trevor & I to design our own home and develop a piece of land to live off of. We found the place to build our forever home tucked away in the quiet foothills overlooking the Sacramento Valley. The dream that seemed out of reach and intangible has turned out to be the adventure of our lifetimes. Throughout this process, we have both discovered talents and learned from our mistakes. We have developed experiences full of successes as well as tribulations which we now want to share with those set on similar courses.
I have discovered that dreaming big doesn’t have to be unrealistic and that any of your wildest dreams is only out of reach if you never try. I’ve discovered that when God puts a dream in your heart, you should chase it. Our dream home is coming true right in front of our eyes and that has only encouraged us to dream bigger. Now we are so excited to let you all know we have start Phase 2 Construction! We moved up the start date after our baby shower and our small farmhouse was filled with so many generous gifts.
Our initial build consisted of a 901 square foot studio style layout. It is an open concept floor plan with a combined living, kitchen and dining area and a loft above where we currently sleep. Our addition is 808 square feet and is comprised of two large bedrooms and an entryway/foyer. Phase one was built with this addition in mind so demo for phase two will be very simple. The porch lid was built onto an easily detachable ledger and the porch slab was not dowelled into the house slab. The roof line was built with a seam that will be easily removed and power and utilities were brought to the far end of the attic. The bedrooms will feature large picture windows and the addition overall has a few neat architectural features we cant wait to share with you all.
We are on youtube and we can not wait to blog & video our way through this home build. If you have any tips and tricks for videoing in the evening house with an iphone I am open to suggestions! In this first video we share a lot of Q&A’s about the questions I am messaged a lot on instagram.
I would love for you to follow our journey and subscribe to our channel!
The outpour of support on my Instagram account has been amazing through this homesteading process. I wish I would have started this journey with you all previously. My plan is to blog and video the whole journey with you all. When you are building your home you are involved in each and every step. Every Home Depot run, every lumber drop, and every dirty phase of do-it-yourself construction.
So thank you to each and everyone of you for following,
Christina & Trevor
