Everyone loves a before and after reveal! Today we are going to show you a few of our recent barn renovations as well as show you how we transformed our barn workshop, stay tuned for the final reveal.
DIY Projects
You guys know we do most everything ourselves around here, to maintain our debt-free style of living. (We are our cheapest workers!) You would think we were worn out but no, we are obsessed. While we are working on a project, we will be thinking and planning the next one, it’s crazy! We also love the part where we get to show the reveal after working so hard to transform a space.
We started in the garden and added the raised garden beds, moved up the stone pathway through the deer-proof fencing, and worked on the DIY stone backsplash around our farmhouse. In the barn, we have the dog wash station, and we just recently completed the barn tack room. Now that we have so many more projects in mind, we really needed to make space for Trevor to work and for him to organize his tools. After cleaning out the space for the tack room, we have been itching to get this corner of the barn organized as well.
It’s very important when you are working on big projects, to have an organized and spacious area to work in. We are so proud of how our workshop came out and we can’t wait to reveal it to you!
Barn Workshop Makeover
Once we got all of the clutter in this space cleared out and organized, it was finally time to open the boxes of white metal peg board to put across the back wall so that we can hang shelves and tools. We can’t believe how many tools we have! We usually rent them for big projects, however, slowly but surely we have been buying things that we know we will use so that we can keep them on our farm.
As the tools started piling up, we knew we needed to get to the workshop next and make it into the workshop of our dreams. Once the pegboards were up, we started to organize the tools. This took more than one day, but we are a good team and we take turns taking the girls or doing the tough work, that is truly how we get so much done around here!
The peg boards make it very easy to hang buckets of screws or shelves for drills, or hanging any other kind of tool that you can think of. We even took the brackets that we had from making the bed frame dupe and hung those up there to offset the levels. This makes a big difference as you will see when we finally reveal the finished product. We wanted to make sure that everything looked evenly placed and organized!
Barn Workshop Reveal
We chose bright and white for the theme of our barn because it really helps to hide the dust and the cobwebs! So the peg boards that we hung all of the tools on are white, and really open the space up. We will be spending a lot of time here while working on projects around the homestead and we would much rather prefer the space to feel open and airy as opposed to musty and gloomy. We also spent so much time organizing the tools so that they looked as pretty as possible when they are all in their places.
We know that spaces around the farm can’t always be prim and proper, however, we really like to make things pretty when we reveal them! We got matching cabinets that hang above and below the countertop on the side where the tools are hanging on the pegboard and we love the way that they look. We also got some matching cabinets that roll, and those are so easy to move around when you need them!
For the reveal, Trevor placed all of the final touches. He attached all of the little Allen wrenches to the magnet bar, and secured his big saw right in the center beneath our customized Thermaland Oaks Homestead sign. We absolutely love the way it came out.
It’s truly a dream come true that we can build our dream home piece by piece. To think, we started with a raw piece of land and we have built all of this with our own two hands! What projects would you like to see next? Let us know in the comments, friends!
Hugs,
Christina & Trevor
